Once the Cold War ended, the Air Force found a new mission for the F-22 as a long-range fighter with a sophisticated stealth design and state-of-the-art equipment that no other plane could rival.
Huh. Sounds exactly like the original mission of penetrating Soviet airspace by using advanced technology. Which sounds like something we don't need real bad. At the moment. It almost seems like F-22 backers have to sell the media on the usefulness of a sweet plane that has nothing to justify its existence. Personally finding 5th-generation jet fighters to be plenty bad-ass, its a problem I have some sympathy for. CNN running with it, not so much.
