Then We Lie Together, Cry Together, I Swear to Fucking God I Hope We Die Together

Say you're the author of a conservative blog and you feel a need to address the blowback created by the passage of Proposition 8 in California.  How do you go about it?

First, you characterize the tens of thousands of people of every race, color, creed, age and sexual orientation marching nationwide on Saturday as "homosexuals demonstrat[ing]." Because everybody in this picture is clearly gay: 

Then, following your intentional mischaracterization, you follow it up with another when you write, "no [U.S.] legislature has ever voted to established homosexual marriage," even though that's exactly what the legislature of the state in question, California, did.  You peddle this lie, not because you're ignorant of the facts - you can use Google after all, but because, well, it kind of hurts your liberal judicial activism argument when representative bodies approve of something before the courts do.  Now, after one mischaracterization and one lie, you proceed with posting one picture of one sign from one march and play the wounded victim, by criticizing gay activists for smearing you because you are, indeed, not a bigot, you just don't think this group of people over here should have the same rights as you do.

You've done pretty well so far, saying that we don't really need to pay attention to all those marchers because, hey, they're all gay and nobody supports them and did I mention they called us bigots? How can you follow that? Well, you mock the movement for seeking redress in the courts, cause that's not what people who don't have to do do. Then, you mock the argument that gay marriage is a civil right without taking the issue up - it'd be kind of embarrassing for you if you did, after all - and say that the whole thing is predicated on "one theory, or another" but none of those theories matter.  I recall something about the guarantee of the ability to pursue happiness in one of those founding documents, but you don't need to worry about that. 

Instead, you write that Prop 8 didn't take away rights, but instead restored "the status quo ante with respects to 'rights' that were never democratically recognized in the first place," because those 18,000 gay couples who were legally married... well, haha can you believe they believed their state-certified marriage licenses meant anything, haha suckers.  You should also ignore any historical parallels that would make your argument about democratically recognized rights problematic, because, after all, your ideology and your readership have been on the side of fewer guaranteed civil rights - except for GUNS, we need more GUNS - for a while now.  

You've now done a pretty good job of saying those Prop 8 protests are all malarky without even needing to engage in any of the arguments in favor of gay marriage.  To cap it all off, make sure your comments include people railing against "the radical socialists," "Joseph Stalin Agenda items," and the destruction of American society.  

Good job!

Seriously, though, I don't think the authors of Powerlineblog are arguing in bad faith, just lazy, ideological faith.
